Abhirup Das did his PhD as a National Institute of Health pre-doctoral fellow in the field of Chemical Biology at Stanford University, USA.  After finishing his PhD, he worked as a Glenn Postdoctoral Fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA under the supervision of Prof. Leonard Guarente, a world-renowned expert in Ageing and Sirtuin Biology. In 2014, he was recruited by Prof. David Sinclair at UNSW (Joint appointment at Harvard University) as a postdoctoral fellow to continue his research on muscle physiology and ageing.

His research goals are to understand why muscle health declines with age and how to promote muscle regeneration and repair after injury in the elderly. In his recent work, published in the journal Cell, he has identified key cellular mechanisms by which ageing affects muscle health and discovered interventions to reverse age-associated decline in blood flow and endurance in mice. He has several ongoing multidisciplinary collaborations, in Australia and USA, as well as industry engagements for his research.

All welcome. Drinks and nibbles from 3:30pm, seminar starts, 4pm.
