Speaker: Dr. Gaetano D. Gargiulo, School of Engineering, Western Sydney University

Biomedical engineering is is often confused to be just a branch of materials and mechanical engineering. Medical devices are however also electronic devices. Without electrical and electronic engineers, the recent advances in medical sciences would not have been possible.

This talk will focus on electronic medical devices currently under development/clinical trial in Australia.
Gaetano D. Gargiulo is an expert in biomedical engineering, electronic instrumentation, bio-signals sensing and analysis including: human-computer interfaces, brain-computer interfaces, prosthesis and smart wearable systems. Listed as inventor on several awarded patents in the field of biomedical engineering, he is been awarded research funding in excess of AU$1.5M and contributed to the spin-off of six start-up companies that have raised private investment in excess of AU$5M.

He is in charge of the degree in Biomedical Engineering, the Master’s degree and the Biomedical Engineering research program. He is also an internationally known underwater wildlife photographer.

All welcome. Drinks and snacks from 3:30pm, seminar starts, 4pm.
