Neuroscience & Non-Communicable Diseases Seminar Series
Speaker: Dr Yossi Buskila, Western Sydney University, NSW
Dr Buskila received his PhD in 2010 from Ben-Gurion University, Israel, conducting his research on neuronal-glia interactions. Following his PhD, he joined the lab of Prof. Graham Ellis-Davies (Drexel University) as a postdoctoral research fellow to study the effect of β-amyloid on cortical neurons using electrophysiological and 2-photon imaging techniques.
In 2012, he joined the Biomedical Engineering and Neuroscience research group (BENS) within the MARCS institute to study the role of spike propagation delays in the way neuronal networks process informative signals.
In 2014 he took a Senior Lecturer position in the Anatomy & Cell biology department at Western Sydney University. He uses diverse electrophysiological and imaging methods to study the mechanisms that govern neuronal signals transmission and integration, specifically the relationship between synaptic plasticity, propagation delays and neural-astrocytic interactions.
He is also a director in PAYO Scientific, a spin-off company that builds and distributes the BraincubatorTM, a system designed to extend the viability of acute brain slices.
All welcome. Drinks and snacks from 3:30pm, seminar starts, 4pm.
