Parasitic Worms: Should we reunite with these old friends?

A/Prof Sheila Donnelly, Programme Director of Bachelor of Biotechnology, University of Technology Sydney and Associate Professor, School of Life Sciences, University of Technology Sydney.

A/Prof. Donnelly’s research career started with a PhD in viral immunology at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. Since then her interest in understanding host-pathogen interactions has not waivered. In recent years, she has focused primarily on characterising the molecules that are secreted by parasitic worms and in particular identifying unique immune-modulating proteins. Of particular interest is the possibility that one of these proteins could act as a therapeutic for autoimmune disease
